Explore Norfolk Trails

Norfolk Trails’ Treasure

What comes to mind when reading this title? A stunning sunset…beautiful landscape…swan gliding along a river…historical architecture? The list is endless.

Well this summer Norfolk Trails launched its first ever official photo competition with the theme ‘Norfolk Trails’ Treasure’.

What do you treasure when you’re out exploring the Norfolk Trails?

That included all of Norfolk Trails long distance trails and circular walks.

You may have seen a lot of activity on social media channels – there were over 100 phenomenal entries sent in via Facebook, Twitter and Flickr (with up to 5 entries per person).

Who decided who got the prize? There was a panel of judges which included Brian Hannah, chairman of Norfolk County Council, Nigel Pickover, EDP and Norwich Evening News editor and David Yates, Norfolk County Council’s senior trails officer. They certainly had their work cut out for them but managed to shortlist 6 photos to go to public vote in October.

1st, 2nd and 3rd place was decided by online public voting. The winner of a special under-13s category was picked by the judging panel.

First and second place was snapped up by Gary Pearson for his stunning photos of the Norfolk Coast Path.

Gail Sparks won third place for the spectacular photo of the a windmill on Weavers’ Way as the sunset.

Kitty King topped the under-13s category with her photo of the River Glaven at Clay which shows the industrial sluice gate sitting within the beauty of nature.

And here are the winners at the Prize giving ceremony at the Forum, Norwich, on Sunday 2nd November.

Keep snapping away with that camera and share your amazing photos with us via Facebook or Twitter . We love to see our Norfolk’s beautiful Trails in a new way and who knows, it may feature in one of our blog posts.

Due to the success of our first photo competition, keep your photography eyes pealed, as we are likely to be having another in the not too distant future!
