Norwich Door to Door Sponsored Walk

There was wind, there was sun, there was rain, there were smiles, there were blisters, there was CAKE!

What a day we had for the Norwich Door to Door Sponsored Walk on Saturday 10th May.  Nobody said it was ever going to be easy, so a huge Congratulations to everyone for taking on the challenge, whether Walking or Volunteering, whether the distance was completed or not, it was demanding,  so we want all to feel very proud for just being there!

The first group of walkers departed from County Hall in persistent rain and wind, but they put on a brave face as they began walking the route.  But luckily, after a few hours the skies cleared and the sun shone.  There were 50 people walking 7, 12 or 26 mile routes following the Wherryman’s Way footpath that cuts through the broads along the river Yare and across the South Norfolk countryside.

We had participants from all over Norfolk, including a team of “Tooth Fairies” from Taverham Dental Practice, who made for a colourful sight as they embarked in tutu’s and wings along the 12 mile path!

Of the 10 who began the 26 miles route, 5 made it to the finish at Reedham Ferry where they were welcomed by Lesley from Humpty Dumpty Brewery and rewarded with a glass of  fine ale for their mammoth achievement!

Although very tired, each one of the walkers could feel justifiably proud as they rested at Moco HQ enjoying a drink and piece of cake (donated by our wonderful volunteers!) before being transported in a Door to Door bus back to Norfolk County Hall. Thank you to all who walked on the day and everyone who has generously sponsored their efforts!

Their efforts have so far raised over £2,000 with more sponsorship to come, an amazing total of funds to assist towards our mobility service.  Jill Gaul, our Chief Executive said, “The walkers all managed to walk until it felt like they could not take another step to highlight how important our service is to the 540 registered passengers who rely on our buses for their daily living needs.” Norwich Door to Door provides a safe and secure dial-a-ride service for disabled children, adults and for older people with severe mobility problems.
